Meet “Dolores”: Mike’s 120th Anniversary Gibson Firebird
Bellwether Ritual thrives on atmosphere, heaviness, and a sense of timelessness. To help channel those qualities into the band’s ever-evolving sound, guitarist and vocalist Mike has added a powerful new weapon to his arsenal: a 120th Anniversary Gibson Firebird, affectionately named “Dolores” after his grandmother.
The Firebird has always been an outsider’s guitar—a radical shape with a growl and sustain that makes it perfect for both classic rock and heavy experimentation. This anniversary edition celebrates Gibson’s legacy, while also paving the way for new sonic landscapes.
Why the Firebird?
Mike has long gravitated toward instruments that balance tradition with edge, and the Firebird embodies that spirit. With its reverse-body design, neck-through construction, and mini-humbuckers, the guitar offers warm resonance, biting mids, and endless sustain—qualities that cut through Bellwether Ritual’s doom-wop wall of sound.
“The Firebird has this natural snarl,” Mike explains. “It growls when you dig in, but it sings when you let it breathe. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
A Tribute to Family
Naming the guitar Dolores was no accident. Mike’s grandmother, who inspired the name. Mike says. “When I play this guitar, I’ll think of her.”
Just as Bellwether Ritual draws on the past to create something new, Dolores is both a tribute to family roots and a tool for musical exploration.
Dolores on Stage
Fans can expect to hear Dolores in action at upcoming shows, where her bright bite and thunderous lows will add new texture to tracks like Lock and Key and Neanderthal Blues. Whether ringing out shimmering cleans or delivering saturated doom tones, Dolores promises to be a defining part of the band’s sound in 2025 and beyond including the new record being recorded right now.
Bellwether Ritual is about stories—some ancient, some personal—and Dolores is now part of that story. From family ties to crushing riffs, this Firebird is ready to spread its wings.
