Mike (Bellwether Ritual):
Hello and welcome to the Bellwether Ritual live stream, where we discuss music, local happenings in the Lehigh Valley, PA, and beyond—especially today, we’ll talk about bands, social media, and more! Today’s Thursday, November 14th, and we usually do these on Tuesdays, but we’ve got something special this time.
My name’s Mike, and I’m the guitarist and vocalist for Bellwether Ritual. I hope you all had a great week. Just a quick reminder: we’ve got new CDs available and a fresh website up, so check them out. Also, don’t forget to like and subscribe if you enjoy what we do here. Most importantly, go out and support your local musicians—building your community is key.
Now, tonight’s guest is S Patrick Brooks of The Heavy Underground Farm Report, a site dedicated to bringing the best releases, interviews, reviews, and news in stoner, doom, and metal. He also writes for Outlaws of the Sun and believes the golden age of heavy music is right now. We’re going to dive into all of that and more
Patrick, welcome to the stream! How are you doing?
S Patrick Brooks:
I’m doing great, Mike. Thanks for having me, I really appreciate it.
Mike (Bellwether Ritual):
Absolutely, man! Before we dive in, is there anything you want to plug right off the bat? Let everyone know where they can find you or follow you?
S Patrick Brooks:
Yeah, for sure! You can find me on YouTube under The Heavy Underground Farm Report. I’ve got interviews there, and while I started with some different content, it’s the interviews that really seem to resonate with people. Just today, I interviewed Strangled by the Sun, so you can check that out.
I also have a Facebook page for The Heavy Underground Farm Report where I post updates about albums I like, news on upcoming shows, and anything related to the heavy underground scene—just like Bellwether Ritual. So, definitely follow me there if you’re into it.
I just love the music, man. That’s why I’m doing this.
Mike (Bellwether Ritual):
Awesome, I’ve been checking out some of your interviews lately—really cool stuff. One thing I want to touch on is Ripple Fest. It was great that you got to attend. We’ll talk about that more later, but let’s start from the beginning. You’re from Colorado, right?
S Patrick Brooks:
Yeah, I’m from Denver, Colorado. We have a really vibrant doom scene here, and tons of amazing bands. This year alone, we’ve had some great albums come out from bands like Deer Creek, Cobid, Astronaut, and Abrams. Luna Soul’s new album is amazing too. It’s definitely a hotbed for heavy music, and I’m fortunate to be part of it.
Mike (Bellwether Ritual):
That’s awesome. I’m relatively new to this scene, but just in the last couple of years, I’ve been discovering some incredible bands and people, thanks in part to the Doom charts. It’s been like a whole new world opening up for me.
S Patrick Brooks:
It’s really cool, right? I’ve been aware of the Doom charts for a little while now, and to be part of it has been such an honor. It’s amazing to think that anyone cares about my take on music, but it’s also allowed me to discover tons of great bands from all over the world—including yours. And I’m really stoked about that.
Mike (Bellwether Ritual):
Man, we really appreciate that. Your write-up on us was actually one of the first big pieces we got, and we’ve got it linked from our website. It came at a really low point for us, so seeing that piece really meant a lot. Thank you so much.
S Patrick Brooks:
That means a lot to hear, Mike. I loved your album from the start—it actually threw off my writing schedule because I just had to write about it right away.
